New TV owner needs Advice
Ciao Amici,
My name is Dayan and I am from Sri Lanka. I am about to buy what is looking like a 1957 1100 TV. It is in need of a full body and cosmetic restoration but I would like to save this car.
After researching the internet with its limited information I have some small doubts about in this car is totally authentic. The registration book says 1100 TV 1957. The chassis (VIN) number is - 103E 127*303993.
First let me tell you the positive features that I notice.
1. The front radiator grille of a '57 model
2. All the bright work trimmings seem to be in tact.
3. The propeller shaft is in two parts.
4. The two spoke steering wheel looks special but the round horn rim is broken.
5. The rear end looks authentic '57 TV.
6. The seller insists that the sump is aluminium.
7. It has a 1100TV badge on the boot lid.
However there are some doubts.
1. There are no square fog lamps below the head lamps and small round driving lamps.
2. The Speedo meter seems to have been changed and shows a max speed of 90MPH. I am told that the TV model should read 100MPH?
3. The strangest detail is however this, when the boot is opened inner panels of an early 1100 (1953) is visible under the finned rear fenders.
4. The side bright work strips run straight from the front head lamps to the rear, instead of curving downwards as in many pics I have seen on the internet. The ones on the car look more like the earlier TVs.
5. The bumpers are incorrect.
How can I pos pictures here so that you will be better able to advise me?
Thanks.

There they are. Not very great pics but the car is a little inaccessible.

the other member off the forum will give you more précisions, i suppose .

Re: New TV owner needs Advice
Hallo Fernando and wellcome !
Surely the chassis number is of a 1100 E or a 1100 TV E, but at the moment I can't say for sure if this specific number belongs to a E or a TV E.
The radiator grille is surely of a TV E, and the side turn signal too.
It would be very interesting to know how this car reached Sri Lanka. I'm quite surprised, in light of the fact that seems to me no 1100 were imported. May be coming from Great Britain ?
Surely other members of the Club will give you more informations, and I'll tray too.
Best regards

Re: New TV owner needs Advice
Greetings Autovonkleist. The 1100 was a very popular car in Sri Lanka. Hundreds, if not thousands were imported here. And there are many survivors. TV s and 1200s are quite rare though. I spoke to a friend whose brother had owned one when they were young lads. And most of his description fits with this car. So I am buying it next week.
Once I get it out I will post more pics. I like the fact that this will be my first 50's car. Many years ago I owned a Fiat 131S 1.6 and before that my father owned a Fiat Regata. I currently own 3 classic Alfa Romeo coupes. A Giulia, an Alfetta GTV and a Sud Sprint. This will be my first Fiat in a long time and my first 50's car ever! I'm very excited even though the body needs a lot of work before I can start enjoying her!

Re: New TV owner needs Advice
Ciao everyone. I have bought the car. Here are a few more pics from the place I took her. Now I need to hunt down parts. Where can I look for original headlamps and tail lamps to start with?
