Air cleaner assembly from an 1100R needed
Hi all, I am in need of an air cleaner assembly out of an 1100R for my Fiat Abarth 1300/124. This is the one that fits a Solex 32PHH sidedraft carb as originally installed by Fiat. I believe that the same carb and air cleaner assembly was used on an early 124 sedan (and possibly station wagon?) and also maybe a 1200 or 1500 cabriolet.
Any leads on finding one anywhere in the world would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Gil

Hello Gil
The Air filter housing from the FIAT 1100R, and early series FIAT 124, both fitted with 1 single, side draught, twin carburetor (2 throats, operating simultaneously), have DIFFERENT AIR FILTER HOUSINGS, although I've seen photos of both types fitted in various FIAT 124/1300 Abarths. The difference in air filter housing may be due to the position of the by-pass gases pipe from the tappet/rocker cover to the air filter housing , and the position of the Hot air intake pipe, with reference to the outlet manifold. These type of single side draught, twin carburetors were only fitted on the FIAT 1100R and early series FIAT 124 engines.
The FIAT 1200 and 1500 cars were fitted with 1 single down draught twin-choke carburetor. (2 throats, operating individualy, primary & secondary throats)
I hope this helps.
I've also see photos of these engines showing modifications done for replacement of Air filter housing. In this case some modifications have been a special "cone mesh screen" fitted, and "intake tube, manifolds" (these also have a screen/mesh on the entrance to the intake tube). check out website: http://www.classicforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=251
Happy motoring.
Kind Regards

Modello Fiat 1100 : I am the proud owner of a 1965 FIAT 1100D, R.H.D, assembled in South Africa, which my father bought on 18th September 1965, and has been in the family ever since new.
In previous years, I owned another 2 FIAT 1100D cars and have become very passionate about these cars.
I have a lot of technical experience with these cars and my knowledge extends to my personal contact information and research with the Premier Automobiles Ltd in Kurla, Mumbai, where the FIAT 1100D was remanufactured as Premier Padmini.
During a trip to India in 2004, I did a lot of research on these cars and have taken very interesting photos, including the CNG gas conversion kit fitted to the taxis and the Premier 1.37D, which has a diesel engine, but not FIAT engine, it is a Peuqout engine.
In my travels throuhg Africa in 1998, I saw many old FIAT models in Ethiopia and Egypt.
My FIAT is mechanically 100%, although the bodywork needs to be restored.
I hope to share interesting thoughs on all FIAT 1100 models, and happy and proud to be a MILLECENTO member.
Ciao Luigino

Hi Gil
WELCOME to the FORUM...! I think you're our first Canadian member - we have a couple in the US but we don't often hear from them! Sadly, I can't help with advice on the oily bits but Luigino is a fountain of knowledge, as per message above... and there's plenty of goodwill also from the Italian members.
Do keep in touch, and it would be great to see a pic or two of your car.
All the best, John.
